The two primary aspect ratios that are often used in TVs are 4:3, which is the standard and 16:9, which is the widescreen ratio.
Progressive and interlaced scanning are the two primary types of scanning that are used in TVs.
Scanning refers to the name in which a screen updates and then changes the images. This is usually represented by the letters “p” and “I” in the resolution value.
If there is a mismatch between the source resolution and the native resolution, an image is then scaled in order to match to the TV’s native resolution.
For example, if you are watching a movie on Blu-ray, which comes with a 1080p source resolution on a 720p LED TV, the signal will automatically be downscaled to 720p.
